The Office of Strategic Communications is seeking a business professional to support the agency communication and marketing goals as a Digital Accessibility Coordinator. The successful candidate for this position will coordinate the agency’s digital accessibility efforts to ensure compliance with federal and state accessibility requirements, including Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 standards. This position will review documents prior to posting to the agency website to ensure compliance. This individual will serve as a resource to other agency staff, providing training and consultation about compliance, and assisting staff when documents and digital content do not meet accessibility standards. This position will coordinate with other communications, Information Management (IM) and design staff to make resources available to agency employees, including accessible templates, training and education. As a subject matter expert on accessibility, the incumbent will keep up with changes to federal and state compliance requirements, advocate for the importance of accessibility within the agency and make updates to policies and procedures when necessary. This position will routinely audit the agency’s digital communications channels for compliance, including websites, videos and social media platforms. As needed, the incumbent will support the webmaster by coordinating and reviewing requests to update the agency website and will complete other duties as assigned to support the efforts of the Strategic Communications team.
Minimum Qualifications
Interested applicants must have considerable knowledge of state and federal accessibility standards, including Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and WCAG 2.0 standards. Requires experience auditing website and digital media for compliance with accessibility standards. Must have proven experience with document remediation for 508 compliance and accessibility for people with disabilities. Requires demonstrated knowledge of website content management systems and best practices. Ability to meet deadlines and accommodate requests from multiple staff across organization or agency divisions is required. Must have ability to work independently and to support team projects. Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer for word processing, creating spreadsheets, operating digital communications platforms, and checking accessibility of Word, PowerPoint and PDF documents.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using Adobe Creative Suites is desired. Completion of a bachelor’s degree or higher degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in communications, information or graphic design or a related field is preferred.
