Instructional Accessibility Specialist

The primary role of the Instructional Accessibility Specialist will be to provide technical assistance, training, and resources to faculty in creating accessible educational content. The position will also consult with TTaDA colleagues, Student Disability Resources and Equal Opportunity & Title IX to provide guidance to faculty on creation and remediation of accessible course content.

Duties & Responsibilities

Provide technical assistance to faculty in creation or remediation of course materials for accessibility compliance (WCAG 2.1 AA for PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, video/audio content).
Assist with development and review of self-paced enroll anytime courses, online-non-credit courses, certificate programs, etc. to ensure accessibility compliance.
Oversee tracking of course accessibility and collect/analyze data to provide reports on overall accessibility progress for all courses with the learning management system.
Evaluate the accessibility of instructional technology systems and software and make recommendations concerning best practices.
Provide training and advise faculty and staff on remediating content to meet WCAG 2.1 AA for PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, video/audio content as well as Math ML/LaTex, accessible graphs/maps, etc.
Test resources/documents using screen reading software, screen magnification software, Speech-to-Text software, text-to-speech software.
Required Competencies

Ability to: Demonstrate accessibility compliance remediation techniques and provide relevant trainings; work independently; make decisions about and troubleshoot accessibility issues; develop accessible web-based resources for teaching and learning; create and maintain accessible web pages; speak and write effectively in English in individual and group settings; work effectively with faculty and staff who have a variety of technological skill levels; give and follow oral and written directions; maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for, a diverse population.

Knowledge of: Fundamentals and techniques of creating, producing and remediating accessible (PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, video/audio content) web pages, online forms, and digital media; development, assessment, and remediation of accessible web pages following WCAG 2.1 AA standards; accessibility testing tools (screen reading software, screen magnification software, Speech-to-Text software, text-to-speech software); courseware authoring tools and/or learning management systems, content management systems, with particular expertise in accessibility features of MS Word and Adobe Acrobat software.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree OR Associate degree and 3 years’ experience in digital accessibility or related field.
Familiarity with WCAG 2.1 AA standards
Experience with digital accessibility in teaching and learning.
Experience remediating PDFs using Adobe Pro and other PDF remediation software and /or checkers
Experience remediating, Word, Powerpoint, and Excel files
Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Rehabilitation and Human Services, Special Education, Accessibility Studies, Communications Sciences and Disorders, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) Certification
Experience with assistive software and technologies used in the physical classroom

Salary Range: $52000 - $55000
