Job Summary
At the MN Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA), the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility office strives to make a difference in providing an accessible and inclusive workplace environment for applicants, employees, and members of the public. We are a mission driven agency and believe in supporting our employees so we can continue to provide the best care to our Veterans.
In this role, the Accessibility Coordinator will lead agency compliance efforts for reasonable accommodations and digital accessibility by following the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its amendments, the Minnesota Human Rights Act, and other federal and state disability laws, regulations, and rules. The incumbent will determine requests for reasonable accommodation for applicants, employees, and members of the public under Title I and II of the ADA, and the state’s Connect 700 hiring program. The Accessibility Coordinator will lead an agency-wide culture shift towards digital accessibility.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years of professional level experience working with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), such as responding to requests for reasonable accommodations, advising management regarding policies, and tracking, analyzing, and presenting data.
Demonstrated knowledge of the laws and requirements pertaining to ADA and the ability to apply them in a large, complex organizational setting.
Communication skills sufficient to work effectively and facilitate dialogue and conflict resolution with a variety of individuals, groups, and issues.
Effective writing and editing skills sufficient to prepare documents such as policy and educational materials for a diverse audience.
Experience creating accessible Word, PDF, Excel, and PowerPoint documents.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)/Section 508 accessibility standards related to web content and documents.
Designing and delivering training and presentations, using a variety of instructional techniques and formats.
Skills in effective project management including project planning, organization, and implementation.
Proven mediation and negotiation skills sufficient to resolve conflict situations.
Experience in human resources, equal opportunity, affirmative action, ADA administration within the State of Minnesota or other public sector system.

A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) criminal background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
