Overview

The Client is looking for a Sr. Digital Accessibility Coach. This individual will bring their vast skills, expertise, and dedication to be the main driver of the Client's commitment to ensure that all products and services are seamless, inclusive, and accessible to employees and customers. The Digital Accessibility Coach brings in a vast knowledge of digital accessibility, design and coding best practices, and the software development life cycle (SDLC). The coach enables and helps product teams master the craft of creating accessible experiences through training, coaching, and collaboration, and quickly identifies any accessibility barriers created by the Client’s SDLC processes, engineering scalable solutions to overcome them.

Roles & Responsibilities

Build and maintain relationships, credibility, and trust with business, product, and technical partners.
Evaluate, define, and when required, prototype appropriate approaches for any proposed accessibility solution.
Assist internal delivery teams with ongoing development processes and implementation of accessibility throughout the software development lifecycle.
Run automated scans and manual assessments on web pages to identify accessibility issues, suggest fixes, and prioritize.
Help design and development teams understand accessibility requirements, available tools, solutions, and prioritization.
Provide developers with technical advice during code reviews and pair programming during sprints.
Stay up to date on modern web development practices and new versions of WCAG requirements.
Attend team ceremonies (stand-ups, refinement meetings, sprint planning meetings, etc.) to gain knowledge about the accessibility maturity level of the team, identify opportunities for improvement, answer questions, and provide insight.
Review accessibility requirements with product owners and business systems analysts to provide accessibility acceptance criteria that developers can use to develop components meeting WCAG 2.1 AA conformance and provide scope for quality assurance testing.

Skills

A relevant combination of education and experience in front-end development.
Expert-level understanding of HTML, CSS, working knowledge of JavaScript, and reasonable familiarity with frontend frameworks like Angular or React.
Strong knowledge of WCAG, ARIA, and how assistive technologies work.
Strong organizational skills combined with a self-motivated, self-starter attitude.
Experience working in an agile team and cross-team environment.
Strong communication skills and curiosity to understand where teams are in their accessibility journey.
Comfortable discussing UX with designers, developers, and product managers/owners.
