Temporary Web Accessibility Specialist

Job Summary:
We are looking for a full-time 3 month contractor to provide expert guidance on standards for WCAG 2.1/AA and ADA Section 508 compliance. The position will assess, coordinate, and support the institution on their use of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as it relates to web accessibility. Candidates for this position must have 2-3 years of experience implementing accessibility standards for the web.

Full Job Description:

Essential Job Responsibilities

Perform accessibility audits of university websites and web applications.
Evaluate accessibility of externally hosted institutional content.
Recommend guidelines, best practices, and standards related to designing and maintaining accessible websites.
Review the accessibility training curriculum and tools the university is using for monitoring website accessibility and provide suggested updates as appropriate.
Assist with updating web page content in Drupal to correct accessibility errors based on Siteimprove reports.
Consult with web developers to create accessible templates and tools for web production.
Audit PDF documents to ensure their adherence to accessibility standards and remediate in consultation with clients as needed.
Create accessibility reports and presentations.
Document work and key findings and contribute to current online accessibility resources.



Minimum Requirements

At least 2 years of hands-on experience with website development best practices, including SEO techniques and web accessibility remediation of documents and web pages to meet Section 508 and WCAG 2.1/AA compliance requirements
At least 3 years experience working on websites that utilize a web content management system, familiarity with Drupal preferred.
Experience with accessibility audit and quality assurance tools and processes.
Experience creating accessible compliant PDF documents for the web using Adobe and Microsoft applications.
Experience with Assistive Technology (e.g. screen readers, magnifiers, alternative input, etc.) for desktop and mobile technologies required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Expert knowledge of HTML.
Solid understanding of CSS.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to effectively and independently bring projects to completion.
Experience working effectively in highly collaborative, team oriented environments.


Accountabilities

Reports to Assistant Vice President of Web & Digital Communications Strategy.

Pay Rate:
Hourly

Salary Range :
$45-$65/hour depending on experience
