Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, an Associate’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) and two (2) years of relevant professional experience in digital accessibility, information technology, or a closely related field may be considered. Two (2) years of full-time professional experience in digital accessibility, information technology, or a closely related field. Experience with web technologies, including HTML, CSS, ARIA, and/or experience with Content Management Systems. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Experience applying accessibility standards to digital content. Experience with accessibility conformance documentation such as VPATs and HECVATs. Knowledge of legal and policy frameworks related to digital accessibility, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 508. Experience conducting accessibility evaluations, audits, and compliance monitoring. Experience using assistive technologies and accessibility testing tools (e.g., screen readers, WAVE, Axe). Experience developing and delivering training or workshops on digital accessibility best practices. Experience with e-procurement systems, particularly Jaggaer.
Brief Description Of Duties
The Digital Accessibility Support Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring that the University's digital resources are accessible to everyone. This position serves as the primary contact for accessibility reviews, specifically focusing on the accessibility of vendor-provided products, services, and digital materials during the University-wide procurement process. Under the guidance of the Director of AA/EEO, ADA, and Training, or the direction of the Web Accessibility Officer/EIT Coordinator, the EIT Support Specialist will evaluate websites, web-based applications, and digital documents using various methods, including automated tools and manual assessments. A crucial aspect of this role is staying updated on evolving accessibility standards and best practices, especially within the SUNY system, in order to fulfill the responsibilities associated with the position. Additionally, this role involves collaborating with the Web Accessibility Officer/EIT Coordinator to promote a culture of digital accessibility throughout the organization.
Incumbent must have demonstrated analytical skills and experience in data organization and presentation using spreadsheets. Incumbent must have excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, including the ability to convey technical information effectively to diverse audiences. Incumbent must have ability to review and interpret technical documentation, such as vendor product information, to assess accessibility conformance.
Serve as the main point of contact for Electronic and Information Technology (EIT) accessibility reviews, facilitating accessible technology acquisition through the University-wide procurement process.
Analyze and interpret vendor documentation, such as Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) and Higher Education Community Vendor Assessment Tools (HECVATs), to determine compliance with University accessibility standards.
Conduct accessibility reviews of websites, web-based applications, and digital materials utilizing diverse methodologies, including automated testing and manual evaluation techniques.
Collaborate with the Web Accessibility Officer/EIT Coordinator to champion digital accessibility throughout the University and foster a culture of inclusive design and development.
Prepare clear and concise reports and presentations summarizing review findings for both technical and non-technical audiences, including internal stakeholders and external vendors.
Assist in the creation of accessible spreadsheets and other data visualizations to track and communicate accessibility compliance efforts.
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non-Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
