POSITION DESCRIPTION
The UCSB Library seeks to recruit an Online Learning Librarian in the Teaching & Learning Department to facilitate creative, inclusive, and accessible learning experiences (a)synchronously using digital learning systems and materials. As part of a team, the Online Learning Librarian will produce and manage online learning materials to promote and assess information literacy.

It sponsors unique programming and resources for first-generation college students and has recently adopted required course curricula to help orient all first-year students to a liberal arts education. UCSB Library’s Department of Teaching & Learning is specifically focused on advancing foundational information literacy within and beyond course curricula for first-year and first-generation students.

Reporting to the Director of Teaching & Learning, the Online Learning Librarian will be responsible for managing digital learning integrations with library and campus content/learning management systems, providing support and direction to create and functionally deploy library instructional services and resources for synchronous and asynchronous users. To achieve these objectives, the Online Learning Librarian will collaborate closely with the department’s Instructional Designer & Technologist, librarians within and outside the department, as well as campus instructors and faculty who offer first-year and first-generation programming. The position will provide foundational information literacy instruction and research support to a diverse body of undergraduate students.
In addition, the Online Learning Librarian will serve in a consultative capacity to fellow library employees through one-on-one meetings and workshops to support their teaching. They will develop, maintain, assess, and manage digital learning materials used for a variety of instructional approaches within the Library’s Instruction Program. To complement these applied pedagogical approaches, the Online Learning Librarian will engage in professional growth activities to continuously cultivate expertise in educational learning theory, instructional design, instructional technology, and reflective teaching practices. As a part of a team-based unit, Teaching & Learning members engage in programmatic outreach initiatives emphasizing first-year and first-generation college students through independent and partnered efforts with library and campus stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
At time of application, ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library or Information Science, OR a Master’s degree in a field relevant to the advertised position, such as curriculum and instruction, instructional design, learning design, educational technology, or education;
At time of application, at least two years of designing, creating, and editing digital learning objects using instructional technologies
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
Two years of academic library experience.
At least two years experience providing instruction in a variety of modalities, including but not limited to face-to-face or online synchronous sessions, asynchronous online learning modules, and/or hybrid learning environments.
At least one year of experience working with campus learning management systems as a teacher or designer (eg. Canvas).
Preferred qualifications
Demonstrated understanding of issues faced by diverse student populations, such as those experienced by non-traditional, first-generation, transfer, and/or international students.
Working knowledge of information resources and effective search strategies in academic discovery service tools and databases,
Familiarity with educational learning theory, instructional design methods, and/or instructional technologies.
Familiarity with a variety of information and digital literacy concepts, skills, and competencies, including data literacy, to advance foundational research practices in an academic setting.
Facility with the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education and critical information literacy.
Experience designing, creating, and deploying assets in Articulate Rise, Articulate Storyline, Powtoon, LibGuides, LibWizard, or other digital learning development tools.
Experience with assessing online learning materials using accessibility standards, such as WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines).
Excellent virtual and in-person presentation skills demonstrated through public speaking/instructional/presentation experience. -Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to work both independently and collaboratively in a culturally diverse team.
