Steampunk is seeking a 508 Test Engineer who will provide testing and QA expertise in mission critical work across our client base.
Responsibilities will include testing and verification of code, reporting and recording defects, coordination with architects, functional analysts, and developers on testing and testing results, documenting test scripts, participating in design reviews, user acceptance testing, and deployment activities. This individual will also work in an Agile environment and participate in scrum ceremonies and product planning activities.
Contributions
As a 508 Test Engineer, you will work with our growing DevSecOps practice delivering quality assurance services to support application, cloud, and data systems development. We are looking for candidates with 3-5 years of experience with quality assurance and test automation practices in an Agile/DevSecOps work environment. Responsibilities include:
Understanding the needs of stakeholders and conveying this to developers
Meeting with product design team to determine testing parameters
Creating and executing test plans, test cases, and test scripts for accessibility validation
Managing test data architecture definition and requests
Troubleshooting errors and streamlining the test procedures
Testing and examining code written by others and analyzing results, including three or more of the following:
Data validation testing
Functional testing
Performance and load testing
Usability testing
Accessibility (508) testing
Establishing automated testing tools and infrastructure for test automation
Providing validation testing of different system and data sets for cloud migrations
Developing automated testing scripts, considering parallelization and idempotency
Automating and improving development, testing, deployment, and release processes
Working with software developers and software engineers to ensure that development follows established processes and works as intended
Documenting as-is state of the environment, performing a gap analysis, and producing artifacts that articulate options and recommendations
Leveraging virtualization and containerization to optimize testing software systems
Conducting accessibility testing of web and mobile applications to ensure compliance with Section 508, WCAG 2.1, and other relevant standards
Identifying, documenting, and reporting accessibility issues, including recommendations for remediation
Collaborating with developers, designers, and stakeholders to implement and validate accessibility fixes
Utilizing tools such as Axe, JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and other assistive technologies to assess accessibility
Staying current with accessibility laws, regulations, and emerging technologies to ensure ongoing compliance and innovation
Providing guidance and training to development teams on accessibility best practices
Working with teams to bring continuous improvement to DevSecOps processes and tools
Engineering and implementing solutions and providing recommendations for continuous improvement for the services provided
Presenting regular status updates and providing cross training to other DevOps team members
Acting as an individual contributor and mentor more junior team members
Qualifications
Required:
Ability to obtain a U.S. government Security Clearance
BS Degree in an IT field OR BS in a non-IT field and 3 years related IT experience
3 years of experience with one or more programming or scripting languages
3 years of application DevSecOps experience with actual/active development experience in an Agile environment
3 years of experience with Git SCM providers such as GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket
Experience integrating test automation including performance, security, and functional tests into CI/CD Pipelines
Experience in one or more cloud computing environments (e.g. AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Proven experience with accessibility testing and a solid understanding of Section 508 and WCAG standards
Proficiency with accessibility evaluation tools and assistive technologies
Preferred:
Certifications in accessibility (e.g., IAAP CPACC, WAS, 508 DHS Trusted Tester, or related)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills
Experience with documenting an as-is state of the environment, perform a gap analysis, and produce artifacts that articulate options and recommendations

Steampunk relies on several factors to determine salary, including but not limited to geographic location, contractual requirements, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience. The projected compensation range for this position is $90,000 to $130,000. The estimate displayed represents a typical annual salary range for this position.
