Job Title: Sr. Web Accessibility Engineer
Location: Remote (Candidates must be located in Florida, California, or Washington)
Job at a Glance
We are seeking a hands-on Sr. Web Accessibility Engineer to enhance customer experiences through web applications. As a key member of the Commerce group, you will help guide the development of accessibility features in internal and guest-facing web applications. You will work closely with internal development studios, ensuring that digital products comply with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA and higher. The role requires strong expertise in accessibility technologies, automated and manual testing tools, and the ability to provide code-level recommendations for remediation.
Responsibilities
Groom Jira Issues to identify and clarify Critical and High Accessibility Bugs, ensuring clear requirements and code samples are defined.
Analyze backlogs and support project development teams in identifying root causes for accessibility issues.
Coach scrum-masters and studio leads on prioritization and holistic resolution of accessibility issues.
Conduct accessibility audits of web pages, UI workflows, and mobile applications using automated testing tools, manual testing methods, and assistive technology products.
Perform testing and document test results thoroughly.
Identify accessibility violations and recommend detailed code solutions and best practices for remediation.
Engage in rapid prototyping to evaluate technical solutions for accessibility requirements.
Collaborate with external vendors and other accessibility professionals to determine optimal solutions.
Validate and help define acceptance criteria using Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) and Gherkin.
Develop automated test scripts, unit tests, test harnesses, and infrastructure for accessibility validation.
Own test automation, including designing or customizing tools as needed.
Contribute to feature code development and other engineering efforts when not working on accessibility testing.
Maintain continuous integration tools like Jenkins, Xcode Server, and VS Build Server to support test management.
Participate in code reviews, agile planning, and scope estimation for accessibility efforts.
Generate and maintain documentation related to accessibility best practices, guidelines, and technical requirements.
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum 6 years of development experience in a complex enterprise environment.
Expert understanding of WCAG 2.1 AA and the ability to interpret it as development requirements.
Extensive experience working through accessibility defects and providing code-level recommendations.
Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and WAI-ARIA Authoring Practices 1.2.
Proficiency in using assistive technologies such as JAWS, VoiceOver, NVDA, Narrator, and ZoomText.
Experience with common accessibility testing tools such as Chrome DevTools, Axe DevTools, WAVE, Accessibility Insights, and Color Contrast Analyzers.
Familiarity with Jira issue tracking software.
Strong collaboration, communication, and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
Hands-on experience designing and developing WCAG-compliant web and/or mobile applications.
Knowledge of Angular development environments.
Experience contributing to and maintaining accessibility documentation for development teams.
Awareness of WCAG 2.2 AA updates.
Experience testing applications that use Server Delivered User Interfaces (SDUI), such as Flutter.
Familiarity with Confluence as a Wiki documentation tool.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
Preferred: Advanced education or certifications in Web Accessibility, UI/UX, or related fields.
