Accessibility Communications Coordinator

We are looking for an experienced Communications Coordinator to support accessibility-focused communication strategies for a federal client. This role requires a skilled communicator who can craft inclusive content that meets Section 508 and WCAG standards, ensuring information is accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. The Communications Coordinator will work closely with stakeholders and advocacy groups to shape impactful messaging and enhance communication outcomes across digital and traditional platforms.
Location: Remote, with occasional onsite meetings at the U.S. Department of Labor, 200 Constitution Ave NW, Washington, DC 20210, and attendance at key conferences.
Hours: Availability Monday-Friday, 9 AM-5 PM, excluding Federal Holidays or government closures.
Role and Responsibilities:
Design and execute communication strategies that prioritize accessibility, ensuring all materials meet Section 508 and WCAG standards.
Develop accessible content across digital and print platforms, tailoring messaging to effectively reach and engage disabled audiences.
Collaborate with disabled communities and advocacy groups, gathering insights to refine communication strategies and ensure messages are clear, inclusive, and impactful.
Work with project teams to ensure complex information is presented in an accessible format, simplifying technical details for broad audiences.
Track and evaluate communication efforts, implementing improvements to maximize reach, accessibility, and engagement within diverse communities.
Assist in planning and organizing events, conferences, and meetings, supporting accessible communication and material preparation.
Minimum Required Skills & Qualifications:
3-5 years of experience in a communications role with a focus on accessibility and inclusive content creation. (required)
Solid understanding of Section 508, WCAG, and best practices in accessible communication. (required)
Proven experience collaborating with disabled groups and aligning communication strategies with accessibility standards. (required)
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field. (preferred)
Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder. (preferred)
