Job Summary

Under the supervision of the BMAC Director and lead of the AIM Center Coordinator, the incumbent will assess, evaluate, and advise students with disabilities, in particular students with visual and mobility limitations, and consult and collaborate with faculty in order to provide students with accessible textbooks and course materials in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI), Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and Publisher and Copyright laws to ensure compliance of accessible digital content and course materials.

The Accessible Materials Specialist oversees the day-to-day operations of alternative media production and conversion of course materials and in doing so, serves as a liaison to campus and community partners. Also, this position directly supervises a team of student assistants, conducts the Interactive Process with students for alternate format needs, and provides accessible Student Affairs and departmental communications (including but not limited to accessible graphic design, social media, web/website, and written/audio/visual communications).

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI), Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and Publisher and Copyright laws, and CSU policy on provisions and accommodations for students with disabilities. Skilled in development, implementation, and compliance with university and office policies and procedures while maintaining good working relationships with staff at all levels within and external to the University. High quality oral Communication skills to communicate diplomatically and effectively with co-workers and in public to provide trainings, and conduct presentations to groups of various sizes.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.

Two years of experience performing support services for an instructional program, involving such activities as preparing, producing, dispensing, or storing materials, supplies, and equipment preferred.

Three years of experience counseling college students with disabilities preferred.

Three years of experience working with assistive technology and alternative media production at a college or university preferred.

Three years of experience creating accessible communication materials and accessible graphic design preferred.

Previous disability-related experience, with higher education experience preferred.

Physical Summary

Light work - Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10-20 pounds) and/or 10% - 20% of the job involves standing or walking.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: $4610 - $4841 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4610 - $6556 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

Additional Information

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
