The ideal candidate is a seasoned product leader with a deep understanding of IT, a strategic thinker, and a strong communicator. The Senior Accessibility Specialist will be responsible for developing and maintaining user-friendly, accessible web interfaces that comply with federal accessibility standards, enhancing user experiences, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver inclusive and high-performing digital solutions. You will work closely with government counterparts, digital experience teams, and a cross-functional team to deliver secure, high-quality solutions and will be adept at leveraging a structured approach to decision-making that aligns with measurable outcomes.


This is a full-time W2 position.

Corp-to-Corp and 1099 ineligible.

You must be a US Citizen.

You must be able to pass and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain responsive, user-friendly web interfaces that comply with federal accessibility standards, including Section 508 and WCAG guidelines.
Collaborate with designers, back-end developers, and other stakeholders to translate user requirements into high-quality, accessible front-end code.
Conduct accessibility audits using automated tools and manual testing techniques to identify and resolve barriers for users with disabilities.
Implement best practices for semantic HTML, CSS, React, and JavaScript to ensure web applications are accessible, performant, and cross-browser compatible.
Provide expertise in accessibility, offering guidance and recommendations to ensure digital products meet or exceed compliance requirements.
Stay updated on evolving federal accessibility standards, technologies, and industry best practices, applying them to ongoing projects.
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for front-end code, accessibility testing processes, and remediation strategies.
Conduct training and provide technical support to team members and stakeholders on accessibility practices.
Collaborate with QA teams to ensure rigorous testing of web applications for functionality, usability, and accessibility compliance.
Advocate for user-centric and inclusive design principles throughout the development lifecycle.
Support the integration of accessibility practices and reviews into the development life cycle.
Mentor and support other accessibility specialists and team members in best practices.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
5+ years of experience in with accessibility and user-centered design principles.
Experience building and annotating prototypes in Figma and Sketch.
Demonstrated expertise in implementing and testing for compliance with accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508.
Familiarity with accessibility testing tools, such as Axe, WAVE, Lighthouse, or screen readers like JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver.
Experience working with design systems, such as the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS), or creating reusable UI components.
Strong understanding of responsive and mobile-first design principles.
Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.
Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills, with a focus on accessibility-related issues.
Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Familiarity with federal digital services standards and guidelines is highly desirable.

Nice to Haves:

Certifications such as Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) or Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) from IAAP.
Experience with server-side rendering and headless CMS integration.
Background in performance optimization for web applications.
Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and tools, such as JIRA or Trello.
Experience creating and maintaining style guides and design documentation.
Experience with native mobile app development.
