We are seeking a Director, Accessibility and Accommodations to help us fulfill that mission.
The Director is responsible and accountable for the strategic and tactical management of the Accessibility and Accommodations teams operational activities and will direct accessibility compliance activities required to comply with applicable standards, regulations, and organizational policies.
The Director will serve, internally and externally, as a subject matter expert on accessibility and accommodations policies, procedures, standards, and legal requirements and will proactively advocate and foster a culture of awareness while working collaboratively across the organization to support the business in meeting goals and customer expectations.
The finalist will be hired at the salary and level commensurate with their qualifications. We anticipate offering a market competitive annual salary in the range of $90,000-110,000. ACT manages salaries within the range based on relevant factors including, skills, experience, and internal equity. The position is incentive eligible.
Location: This is a remote position (can also be onsite or hybrid if in Iowa City, Iowa area)
A Day in the Life:
Lead, mentor, support, develop, and manage the performance of the:
Accommodations team assigned to process and review requests for accommodations and English learner supports on ACT’s assessments, support internal and external stakeholders, and operationally deliver ACT’s products and services pursuant to policies and procedures.
Accessibility team assigned to monitor and improve organizational accessibility compliance.
Monitor and regularly report the accessibility and accommodations program performance using key metrics related to cost, quality, and compliance to ensure transparency and consistency.
Develop and implement innovation and continuous improvement strategies to enhance the team’s key capabilities.
Ensure use of best practices for documenting, processing, and reviewing test accommodations and supports for ACT’s products and for integrating accessibility compliance into organizational culture and business processes.
Collaborate with the teams and others to support the organization’s product development lifecycle by contributing enhancements and strategies to remain current with industry standards, customer expectations, and the competitive landscape and by executing strategic initiatives to help support business objectives.
Contribute to responses for proposals, representing at customer-facing events, providing training for team members, supporting vendor relationships, and engaging with the disability community.
Act as an advisor to others implementing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and industry standards such as the Americans with Disabilities, Every Student Succeeds Act, Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
Work closely with other business units and departments to ensure that operational delivery is successful with needed team support.
Collaborate with technology on implementing technology, information systems, and procedures that will improve the customer experience and operational performance.
About the Team:
The Director will lead our Accommodations Eligibility team that is a small group of 5-10 full-time and seasonal team members and our Digital Accessibility team with 2 team members. Both teams are comprised of dedicated professionals with varied skill and backgrounds, all who are driven and motivated to support ACT’s mission by ensuring access for people with disabilities and English learners. Our teams value transparency and accountability and have a commitment to continual growth and learning. We work across and within these teams to provide access to and to support delivery of high-quality, cost effective, and accessible products and services. The Director will collaborate with the teams to drive impact and enact systemic change across the organization, working cross-functionally with leaders in our Center for Equity in Learning, Product and Technology teams, and the Operating Office.
About You:
A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible related experience with a focus on accessibility and/or accommodation requirements in the development, and/or operational delivery fields
At least 2 years of experience and demonstrated success leading, managing, and building teams
Extensive knowledge of accessibility/accommodations requirements, standards, and associated regulations (e.g., ADA, WCAG, Every Student Succeeds Act, ) and demonstrated ability to provide compliance guidance and consultation to others
Ability to remain current regarding accessibility and accommodations trends and best practices, including emerging technologies, psychological and diagnostic standards, and legal standards related to test accommodations, English learner supports, and accessibility compliance
Must be able to thrive and navigate positively in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment with varying priorities, based on a team building and agile culture
Demonstrated people leadership skills and experience leading, aligning, and driving work groups
Ability to work effectively with individuals and cross-functional teams, in a remote work environment
Highly effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate across all levels in the organization
Acts decisively with sound judgement; uses data to analyze options and form opinions
Effectiveness and efficiency, incorporates process improvement, has innovative ideas
Skills and knowledge required for success in this position attained through experience and education (Bachelor’s Degree in law, education, psychology, business administration, or related field of study), or a combination of both
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in an education or assessment setting
Understanding of product development and agile processes
