Detailed Position Description
A critical member of the Communications and Marketing Department, the Social Media Manager develops the strategy for the Wexner Center social media program and is responsible for its implementation.

The Social Media and Digital Accessibility Manager produces, manages, measures and optimizes content performance for multiple social media platforms for the Wexner Center for the Arts.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Advertising Strategy, they are responsible for leading the Wexner Center’s organic and paid social media efforts to connect with the center’s diverse local, national and international audiences on social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter and LinkedIn. This position will provide overall content oversight of Mershon Auditorium social media channels from the Wexner Center’s perspective and partner with Columbus Arena Sports & Entertainment (CASE). This position will also support the Wex Store and help achieve its marketing goals by building awareness of available merchandise and special promotions to help generate e-commerce sales. The position will retain, grow, and engage all target audiences through social media content that prompts social media conversations and creates a sense of community and enthusiasm around WCA programs, events, and initiatives.

The Social Media and Digital Accessibility Manager will ensure that all social platforms and digital content produced by the Wexner Center adheres to digital accessibility guidelines and best practices. They will directly supervise a Digital Accessibility Coordinator and be an active thought partner within the Ohio State University community on accessibility policies and practices. They will work with the Wexner Center’s editor of digital content, collaborate with the creative team, and interface with the Wexner Center website (wexarts.org). The Social Media and Digital Accessibility Manager will suggest new creative ideas for social media and work closely with the editorial team to develop compelling social media messaging.

The Social Media and Digital Accessibility Manger will also supervise a social media intern.

This position partners ensures coverage for Wexner Center events, as determined by social media strategy. This will require some in-person coverage and direction of the social media intern and other Wexner Center associates for key events where multiple activations are happening simultaneously.

This role is expected to analyze and assess and report on metrics and data from social media to help guide and direct strategy for organic, paid, and boosted social media campaigns.

The Social Media Manager is expected to demonstrate a passion for social media, a desire to stay on top of current industry trends, and have a creative, self-starter mindset. They will handle multiple projects and need to flex based on the organization's priorities, including some evening and weekend duties.

Minimum Education Required
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing, communications, video production, journalism, or a related field.

Required:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in marketing, communications, video production, journalism, or a related field; Minimum four (4)years of professional experience creating content (video, photography, advertising copy, and graphics) for a wide variety of audiences and digital platforms including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X/Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn; Proven ability to produce for creative, visual storytelling; Strong understanding of data and analysis, content marketing and online community engagement ; Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be focused on audience and creating digital content with an audience first focus. Must understand social media metrics, measurement, and performance. Must understand digital accessibility requirements and be proactively about staying apprised of all changes in this area.


Desired:
4-8 years of relevant experience. Experience with digital marketing planning; Understanding of paid/owned/earned paradigm in social media; Understanding of user-generated content management, content marketing, and reputation management; Exposure to marketing channels beyond social; Experience with integrated marketing planning; Experience using Sprout Social. Experience with digital accessibility planning and implementation of strategies.

Additional Information

Full-time schedule is 40 hours per week. Must be flexible to work evenings, weekends, and possible holidays as needed.

Duties Description

25% Strategy – Develop the strategic direction for the comprehensive social media program that aligns with the institutional communications and marketing plan for WCA. Develop the social media strategy for individual plans that support select exhibitions, performances, films, talks and events. Socialize the plans with key stakeholders for buy-in and within the Communications and Marketing team for input and creative support. This strategy work will also inform and be the lead on paid advertising on social media platforms in conversation with the content team.

25% Content Creation—Develop and manage creative, visual and text production for content on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter/X, Facebook, and LinkedIn, with the potential to add new platforms. This role will be responsible for co-producing social video content with an eye toward specific audience-centric channel strategies and social media trends.

Partner with multimedia producers, designers, and writers in the Communications and Marketing Department to develop creative assets that can be leveraged on WCA accounts. Provide coverage for events onsite at the WCA and The Ohio State University as necessary.

25% Digital Accessibility – Manage and Lead Digital Accessibility Coordinator; Identify and implement the best practices for digital accessibility across social media, the website(s), email marketing, and the digital/promotional screens, in tandem and through leadership of Digital Accessibility Coordinator. Collaborate with the WCA accessibility manager and be an active member of The Ohio State University accessibility cohort.

15% Analytics, Metrics, and Reporting —in collaboration with WCA content team and data analysts, this role will review, analyze and prepare reports for social media performance, including organic, paid and boosted campaigns. This work will drive decision making and strategy about social media campaigns and content. The social media and digital accessibility manager will work with the Director of Marketing and Advertising Strategy and Head of Communications and Marketing on generation paid advertising strategy for social media platforms. This role will also monitor and ensure that all social platforms and WCA content on said platforms follows institutional and legally mandated accessibility guidelines and practices. As supervisor of the Digital Accessibility Coordinator, the Social Media Manager will guide and implement accessibility measures for WCA digital platforms, including (but not limited to), captions, alt and descriptive text, and readability. The social media and digital accessibility manager will collaborate with the accessibility manager at WCA for a holistic, integrated approach to online and offline visitor compliance.

5% Stay current on new and emerging social media trends, tools, and capabilities through trainings and professional development opportunities. Stay current on digital accessibility requirements.
