Required Minimum Qualifications:

Experience problem solving technology and utilizing databases/management systems
Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act (ADAA) and/or other related legislation
Experience or training (e.g., motivational interviewing, appreciative advising) in direct student communication

Job Description:

If so, Student Accessibility Services at Iowa State University is currently seeking applicants for an Accessibility Coordinator to join their team! This position will be hired as a Student Services Specialist II.

Reporting through the Dean of Students Office in the Division of Student Affairs, Student Accessibility Services (SAS) coordinates reasonable accommodations for ISU students with documented disabilities and promotes access and student success at the University.

What You'll Do:

Review medical documentation, school records (IEP and 504) and other evidence to determine eligibility for services.

Meet with students to review accommodation requests and review students responsibilities and rights under the American Disabilities Act.

Communicate with and assist professors/instructors related to their role in the delivery of reasonable accommodations and access.

Coordinate and ensure various services/processes are in place to deliver reasonable accommodations with various campus partners such as department of residence, dining, facilities, registrar.

Meet with students, parents, and others to complete "Welcome Meetings" providing information regarding eligibility and services.

Work collaboratively with students to problem solve accommodation concerns.

Guide students through basic level assistive technology needs supported through accommodations: textbook requests, overview of reader software, etc.

The successful candidate will exercise independent judgment and/or decision-making ability with moderate supervisory consultation, effectively communicate and prioritize tasks to ensure timely access, and engage in appropriate ongoing education and training to ensure effective delivery of service. This individual will also utilize problem solving skills in this position.


Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.

• Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals
• Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues
• Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems
• Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests
• May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff
• May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity
• Provides guidance to students
