Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

$115,700.00 – $190,900.00

What Is the Opportunity?
Software Quality Engineers work with teams and the Engineering community to evolve our approach to test automation and the tooling used to ensure software is of high quality. With a strong understanding of the desired approach to ensuring quality, they coach and partner side by side with Software and Data Engineers to analyze complex software systems, current quality practices, frameworks, and tools to identify opportunities for improvement in software quality. They work in partnership with engineers to implement those improvements leveraging their expertise to solve complex issues. This is not a Software Quality Assurance or Software Testing role and requires Software Development experience with accessibility focus.
What Will You Do?
This role requires a strong understanding of accessibility standards, automated accessibility testing techniques, and best practices to promote inclusivity and usability for diverse user groups
Conduct comprehensive accessibility audits of digital assets, including websites, applications, software, and documents, to identify potential barriers and ensure compliance with accessibility standards such as WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) via UIC Digital Accessibility Consultation Services and other communication mechanism
Participate in design and development reviews to proactively identify potential accessibility challenges and provide guidance on inclusive design principles.
Provide training sessions and workshops to developers, designers, and other stakeholders to raise awareness and promote best practices for integrating accessibility into the development process
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, designers, product managers and content creators, to promote accessibility awareness and establish a culture of inclusivity.
Develop and expand our test automation framework and test coverage.
Develop working knowledge of the entire application stack including tests at all levels. (Unit, Integration, and End-to-end).
Groom and prune tests at all levels to ensure optimal coverage and effective deduplication.
Collaborate with Product Managers, Software Engineers, Data Engineers, and with the wider product and development team to understand how new features should be tested and to contribute to automated tests for these new features.
Collaborate with engineers to define and implement mechanisms to inject testing earlier into the software development process.
Identify, share, and nurture the adoption of best practices in code health, testing, testability, and maintainability. You should champion clean code and the concept of the test pyramid.
Analyze complex software systems and collaborate with others to improve the overall design, testability, and quality.
Strive for the fastest feedback possible. Test parallelization should be a top priority. You see distributed systems as a core challenge of good test automation infrastructure.
Configure automated tests to execute reliably and efficiently in CI/CD environments.
Track and communicate test results in a timely, effective, and automated manner.
Work independently to tackle well-scoped and loosely scoped problems.
Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge and capabilities.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced employees.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
Four years of programming/development experience preferred.
2 years experience preferred in evaluating digital products, including websites and applications, for accessibility from the perspective of users
What is a Must Have?
Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in work experience.
Two years of programming/development experience.
