Overview
GitHub is revolutionizing the way developers collaborate and build software, and we are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Primer or Accessibility Engineering teams. These teams play a vital role in ensuring GitHub UI is consistent and accessible by supporting and improving the implementation and adoption of reusable design patterns. They also ensure that GitHub’s platform meets and exceeds accessibility standards, unblocking high-priority services and proactively addressing accessibility challenges across the product.
In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and multidisciplinary teammates to grow and improve our component libraries, address accessibility concerns for complex UI patterns, and scale automated solutions for accessibility compliance. . You’ll also seek feedback from product and platform engineers to ensure a smooth and reliable developer experience, making it easier for consumers to build high-quality UI with our design system and accessibility best practices.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree (or higher, e.g., MS, or PhD) or its equivalent in Human-Computer Interaction Design, User Experience Design, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent technical experience.
1+ years experience as a software engineer contributing to design systems or accessibility using one of the following coding languages or technologies: React, Typescript, Jest, Storybook, or ESLint
1+ years experience with WCAG compliance and/or implementing accessibility best practices
1+ years experience working with Git version control, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working successfully with designers to implement and fine-tune complex UI
Experience contributing to frameworks used by other engineers, such as internal or open source component libraries, styling systems, or utilities for developer experience.
Familiarity developing in Ruby on Rails and/or the ViewComponent framework, and feel comfortable pushing Rails code.
Passionate about building accessible and inclusive products, with proven results in identifying and remediating WCAG violations.
Experience analyzing or auditing code for accessibility issues, including using automated testing tools (e.g., Axe).
Experience working on developer tools and/or a developer-focused product.
Compensation Range
The base salary range for this job is USD $81,000.00 - USD $214,900.00 /Yr.
These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.
