We are seeking an Applied Machine Learning Research Scientist to join our Accessibility efforts on the Human-Centered Machine Intelligence (HCMI) team within AIML at Apple.
Research Scientists in HCMI tackle significant technical and human-centered research challenges, collaborate with partner teams across Apple to ship products, and shape the field of human-centered AIML via external publication and engagement.
Join us to design, study, and build intelligent interactive technologies that enable people of all abilities to use Apple technology.
Key Qualifications
Experienced researcher in areas related to Machine Learning and/or Human-Computer Interaction
Publication and research record commensurate with seniority
Proven history of turning research contributions into tools, guidelines, or products either commercially or as open source
Description
The Human Centered Machine Intelligence (HCMI) group in Appleās AIML organization designs, studies, and builds interactive technologies that enable people to benefit from machine learning. We are a close-knit team of research scientists and engineers in a unique position to work closely with product teams throughout Apple. This partnership and a foundation of pioneering industry practices enables our research to have direct impact. We focus on Accessibility, Data Visualization, Educational Technologies, and User Interface Tools/Technologies. Our team makes research and product contributions in both those domains and in cross-cutting human-centered areas like Design & ML and Responsible AI. The groundbreaking technologies shipped by our team have impacted millions of people.
The person joining our team would focus on our Accessibility efforts by:
- Developing new machine learning modeling approaches that advance the state of the art on Accessibility-related problems
- Designing and analyzing experiments to evaluate machine learning modeling approaches
- Working with partner teams to integrate machine learning approaches into human-centered applications
- Evaluating ML-powered applications using human-centered methods
- Creating scholarly machine learning research contributions to be shared internally and/or externally
Education & Experience
PhD in Machine Learning, Human Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or related field
Additional Requirements
- Experience conducting research in Accessibility (e.g., atypical speech, visual accessibility, or other topics)
- Experience doing data collection (e.g., developing protocols or running studies) or data curation
- Experience improving pioneering machine learning models
- Experience developing and shipping products that use machine learning
- Strong writing and public speaking skills
