Senior Digital Accessibility Specialist
The Senior Digital Accessibility Specialist will join TD's Digital Accessibility team to support projects as they create web and mobile applications which meet accessibility standards and meet the needs of our customer with disabilities. In this role you will provide projects with accessibility subject matter expertise from early concept design through launch. You will coach project team members on accessibility best practices, solutions, skills, tools, and techniques. You will be responsible maintaining an accessibility pattern library and contributing to training resources and other assets which communicate best practices. This role reports to Manager Digital Accessibility.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Ensure that Digital Channels' web and mobile assets are in accordance with TD's Accessibility Standards, legal requirements and aligned to industry accessibility best practices.
Collaborate with Digital Channels Standards teams to ensure existing and future templates, assets and standards conform to TD's Accessibility Standards.
Support project teams to meet TD's Accessibility Standards, including during planning, design, build and test cycle.
Create and deliver accessibility training as needed.
Leverage deep subject matter expertise to deliver and champion Digital Channel's Accessibility vision.
Build and maintain effective relationships with technology, business and design partners to be a trusted advisor in delivering accessible products.
Ensure alignment between the many projects, teams, and vendors creating digital experiences.
Develop, educate and socialize accessibility best practices within Digital Channel and ensure that they are firmly embedded in all processes and workflows.
Manage stakeholder expectations on the scope of support and delivery timelines. Communicate significant changes to agreed timelines in advance.
Support the Accessibility governance activities within Digital Channels
Champion accessibility and inclusive design across TD.
Review vendor accessibility claims including VPATs.
Partner with the TD Assistive Technology team to ensure TD's Accessibility Standards remain current with technology changes and trends and aligned with industry best practices and legal requirements.
2-3 years digital accessibility experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and related techniques for web, mobile and documentation.
Demonstrated understanding of how accessibility requirements or best practices enable or improve access to digital content for People with Disabilities.
Proficiency with multiple assistive technologies, including desktop and mobile screen readers.
Expert-level skills at performing accessibility assessments, documenting results and reporting.
Experience interpreting automated accessibility syntax scans.
Strong knowledge of HTML, scripting languages and coding techniques.
Strong knowledge of WAI-ARIA, including best practices and patterns.
Experience creating and delivering accessibility training tailored to business, design, development and QA roles.
Ability to coach and train designers, developers and QA engineers
Experience with Quality Assurance defect triage and assigning severity and priority.
Ability to propose technical solutions for accessibility issues, including code samples.
Effective communicator. Able to summarize and explain digital accessibility topics to non-specialists.
Able to support a variety of project styles including Agile, Waterfall and hybrid approaches.
Robust organizational and time-management skills; comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple deadlines and priorities.
Skillful communication (written and verbal), negotiation and partnership skills to balance stakeholder input but remain objective to reach the right outcome.
Demonstrated understanding of the digital industry including accessibility and trends in this space.
Strong skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint to prepare documentation, reports and presentations.
