Job Description:
As an Accessibility Tester at Softrams, your role is critical in guaranteeing that our digital assets are accessible and compliant with Section 508 and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) guidelines to the American public. You will use your expertise to evaluate, test, and enhance the accessibility of our digital products. You will be working closely with a collaborative and agile team that supports and builds modern, standards-based responsive web applications for mission-critical health IT solutions. As an employee with Softrams you will be working to support government contracts and teams that strive to make a change within healthcare technology.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in an Information Technology, computer science, MIS, or related discipline, or equivalent related experience.
Certified IAAP Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS); and DHS Trusted Tester Certification
3+ years of experience working on Section 508 Compliance and Accessibility.
3+ years of experience using accessibility tools such as JAWS, ANDI, WAVE, browser plug-ins, screen
2+ years of experience working with designers and developers to ensure 508 issues are identified early in the development life cycle.
Accessibility Subject Matter Expert, who follows trends, news, tools
Act as liaison with the client's Accessibility Office and support client testing process.
Strong knowledge of 508 testing procedures in an Agile environment.
Expert level of understanding of 508 compliance validation and WCAG 2.2 standards.
Solid understanding of ARIA and Accessibility compliance validation practices.
Experience working with Federal Government projects.
Attention to detail with strong knowledge of planning and organizing test plans and test cases.
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Confluence, and Jira.
Flexible, detail oriented, with excellent analytical and communication skills.
Ability to focus on deadlines and deliverables, while managing multiple tasks across different projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with Digital Accessibility Platforms
Tasks require significant experience testing systems against specific manual tests, automated tests and assistive technology tools. Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and strong verbal and written communication skills preferred.
Assisting the design and development teams with ways to improve design and code for accessibility standards
Responsibilities:
Provides policy and process support to the entire project team to develop, maintain, and improve our compliance with the federal government’s Section 508 program.
Be the go-to resource for compliance with Section 508 Laws and WCAG and ensure compliance, ease, efficiency, and effectiveness to use for specific audiences.
Assess, analyze, and identify areas of concern for Section 508 non-compliance of products.
Identifies, records, communicates and helps manage specific 508 defects to resolution.
Develop compliance checklists, plans, and remediation actions and give advice on mitigating or resolving issues. Participates in meetings as required.
Coach and train development teams on accessibility testing skills for web and electronic content and applications.
Conduct periodic accessibility assessments for client applications. Report results in a consistent and clear fashion to Section 508 Program Manager or project points-of-contact as appropriate. Responsible for Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) submissions.
Support Agile scrum team in analysis of business requirements and non-functional requirements to identify user story acceptance test criteria for 508 compliance.
Perform document accessibility assessments, and remediation of inaccessible content. Communicate both accessibility assessment results, and solutions to content owners as is appropriate.
Evaluate Section 508 compliance assessment and remediation tools to continuously improve client compliance program. Knowledge of best practices for managing accessibility of information and data is required
Tester shall provide functional assessments and assistive technology evaluation/comparison reports as new Section 508 compliance testing tools/competing products become available in the commercial marketplace.
Capable and comfortable presenting accessibility topics both internally and at conferences and/or public events
Contribute to PI Planning, design reviews, and user story creation.
Submit test reports to management, inclusive of updating Jira tickets, providing status reports, metrics, and compliance reports.

Public Trust Clearance:
This role requires the hired candidate to go through public trust clearance. A minimum of 3 years of stay in the U.S. within the last 5 years is required to be eligible to qualify for public trust clearance sponsorship.
Work Location:
We have open-collaboration offices in Leesburg VA and Baltimore MD for those who may prefer to work on-site. However, Softrams is a 100% remote-first team environment. Softrams works in the eastern time zone and standard work hours are 9am ET to 5pm ET with flexibility around start and end times based on team needs.
