Title: Digital Accessibility Specialist
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Summary of Position
The Statewide Internet Portal Authority (SIPA) provides e-Government solutions to more than 900 state and local governments across the state of Colorado. SIPA is seeking an extremely conscientious Digital Accessibility Specialist to serve as SIPA’s authority on Digital Accessibility. This new role is crucial for ensuring SIPA’s compliance with HB21-1110 and related legislation. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with WCAG 2.1+ Levels A and AA standards and the remediation of various digital properties, including websites, applications, systems, document repositories, and intranets. The Digital Accessibility Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring that SIPA’s digital content is accessible to all users, including those with disabilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The core duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:
Audit and Remediation Activities (70%)
Conduct comprehensive accessibility audits of websites, web applications, intranets, documents, and other digital properties to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1+ Levels A and AA standards.
Utilize assistive technologies and automated testing tools to evaluate and enhance the accessibility of digital properties.
Remediate and test documents such as quotes, invoices, board meeting documents, minutes, and presentations for WCAG compliance.
Develop and implement remediation plans to address identified accessibility issues, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
Maintain a complete log of remediated documents and applications
Generate quarterly remediation updates that can be posted to SIPA’s website.
Investigate and respond to complaints related to inaccessible digital resources. Work with content authors to remediate.
Liaise with the Digital Government Services supplier on the accessibility of the Content Management System platform, and all custom and standard applications
Training and Collaboration (20%)
Provide expert guidance and support to SIPA staff in the creation of accessible digital content, including HTML, CSS, PDFs, and other document formats.
Collaborate with SIPA staff to integrate accessibility best practices into internal operations.
Support SIPA’s assessment of suppliers for compliance with contractual accessibility requirements.
