Location: Office Base can be any BBC main location. This is a hybrid role and the successful candidate will balance office working with home working.

We are investing in our staff facing accessibility team and have an exciting opportunity for a Accessibility Specialist, to help us deliver ambitious plans to further enhance our Accessibility and Assistive Technology provision across the BBC.
Main Responsibilities

As our Accessibility Specialist, you will work closely with Product, Technology and Procurement to provide accessibility-related guidance. You will work in collaboration with other internal teams to support the business and employee experience. You will be a champion of Accessibility and Assistive Technology helping us to create a truly inclusive BBC, advocating for and sharing accessibility best practice.


On a typical day you can expect to:



Assess digital products and services to make sure they work with the BBC’s supported assistive technology platform (e.g. JAWS®, Dragon Professional® and ZoomText).
Build relationships with internal product teams and help them plan a roadmap toward making their products accessible.
Support Procurement as a subject matter expert (SME) when reviewing all accessibility requirements to be met by vendors when supplying the BBC with technology, in accordance with our Technology Accessibility Policy.
Work with third-party suppliers of technology to the BBC, championing accessibility.

Are you the right candidate?

To bes successful in this role:

You will need a strong understanding of assistive technologies and knowledge in the technical background of accessibility including WCAG, WAI-Aria, HTML and CSS.
You have a strong attention to detail, good judgement along with the resilience and tenacity to support procurement and product teams.
You will be able to ensure all technology at the BBC meets the Technology Accessibility Policy.
You are comfortable engaging at all levels of an organisation and communicating complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
You are passionate about ensuring the BBC is truly accessible for all our colleagues.

Job Impact

Interviews expected to be held week commencing 7 April. These will be one stage and held virtually, incorporating a mix of our BBC Values and technical questions.
