Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

IT Services at Iowa State University provides a vast array of services to end users throughout campus and beyond. Our goal is to provide efficient and effective IT solutions.

Iowa State University is currently seeking a Website Accessibility Coordinator. This position will collaborate with web designers, designers, and testers of user accessibility systems to coordinate campus efforts in providing exemplary barrier-free computing and information technology (IT) systems and resources. These include hardware, software applications, web content, web tools and other online and classroom technologies that comply with the ADA, among other state and federal laws. The incumbent will work directly with university faculty and staff and will collaborate with campus partners in providing tools, information, resources, and training to resolve technical and instructional accessibility barriers.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and presentation skills, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills along with the ability to make independent decisions.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 3 years of related experience; OR a Ph.D. or other professional degree and related experience.
Supplemental Required Education and Experience

Related experience must include: (1) web accessibility analysis, design, and development and (2) content management systems and/or learning management systems.
Preferred Education and Experience

Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Graphic Design, or related field.

Experience organizing discussions, groups, and initiatives in professional web accessibility circles.

Experience with usability testing, including testing for persons with disabilities.

Experience developing and delivering training on web topics to technical and non-technical audiences.

Experience leading teams and/or projects.

Experience that demonstrates familiarity with commercial web accessibility evaluation and reporting tools.

Experience that demonstrates knowledge of legislative and industry-based standards such as W3C/WAIWeb Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, WAI-ARIA, and ADASection 504 and 508 guidelines.

Experience with assistive technology such as JAWS, Kurzweil (or other text-to-speech software), Dragon Naturally Speaking (or other speech-to-text software) NVDA, VoiceOver, and Window Eyes (or other screen enhancement software, as well as accessibility features in Windows and Mac.

Experience that demonstrates knowledge of web architecture (including asynchronous interactions, JavaScript middleware, and application development).
