As Head of Role for Accessibility, you will lead the Accessibility profession across DWP Digital.
It's a relatively new and evolving field of expertise within DWP Digital. We are committed to developing our skills and expertise, and we'll make sure you have all the skills and space to make a real difference.

We're looking for someone to head up our accessibility agenda, with a focus on accessibility compliant systems and tooling across DWP Digital.
Your role is crucial. You will lead on making our systems and tooling accessible, so everyone has the right access to do their job, and so every DWP user can access the support they need.
You'll define and assure best practice while influencing, leading, building capability and mentoring others. Working with other Head of Roles to deliver a "joined-up" service to Digital functions, providing best practice guidance on ways of working and accessibility.
What is a Head of Role?
As Head of Role, you will be responsible for building a community of happy, skilled and effective Accessibility professionals.
You'll empower our people to be at their best, define standards and make sure our Accessibility teams have the right tools and environment to deliver effectively.
You'll be an advocate at senior forums for accessibility, and a champion across government. You'll help us make decisions and build services that work for everyone.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?
Significant knowledge of accessibility as a subject area
Passionate advocate of communities of practice - you can confidently articulate the value of them, as well as being experienced in building and leading self-sustaining professional communities
Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills - you can identify and build relationships at all levels and can negotiate and influence at a senior level on issues and the development and enhancement of services, products & systems
Experience of designing and implementing a capability strategy to develop and enhance skills within a team/group/organisation
You can demonstrate creating a culture of keeping up to date with emerging trends within the profession and acting upon them
Experience in coaching, mentoring, peer reviews, providing a friendly ear and creating development opportunities

Location: You'll join us in your choice of our digital hubs in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield.
We operate a hybrid working model with a mix of home working and some time in the office.
Pay: In return for your skills, we offer a competitive salary of £77,740.
Pension: You'll be eligible for a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, worth up to £22,521 a year.
Holidays: You'll get a generous leave package starting at 26 days, rising to 31, plus all the usual bank holidays, and the option to take extra days off on flexi leave.
